Dailies – 1954 July – August

Do you not recognize the song Pepito is singing to Gordo? You certainly know the tune! It’s the last verse to Brahms’s Lullaby
Lullaby, and good night,
With pink roses bedight,
With lilies overspread,
Is my baby’s sweet head.
Lay you down now, and rest,
May your slumber be blessed.
Lay you down now, and rest,
May thy slumber be blessed.
While this “space telescope” is referred to as a “Space Station,” it is actually closer to the Hubble telescope, which would be launched 36 years after this comic strip was created! Info on the Hubble Space Telescope can be found at https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/hubble/story/index.html.
But since we are talking about Space Stations, Gordo was 46 years ahead of his time regarding the International Space Station, which was first occupied in 2000.Here is the NASA link for that, but don’t forget to come back! https://www.nasa.gov/feature/facts-and-figures

Some of Gus Arriola’s story are just far out! But not this one – it may have been inspired by a real-life promotion from Ralston the year before. Thanks to FOG Brett Bydairk – who provides most of these beautiful stirps – we have this story: https://weburbanist.com/2013/10/27/retro-rockets-9-outrageous-roadgoing-spaceships/2/#:~:text=The%20Ralston%20%E2%80%9CSpace%20Patrol%E2%80%9D%20Rocket&text=As%20Space%20Patrol%20was%20nearing,the%20rocket%20in%20a%20contest!&text=neglected%20and%20rusty%2C%20the%20rocket,the%20photos%20above%20were%20taken.
